What to Expect:
“I think I’ve got this down.”
You may experience: Fatigue, cold- and flu-like symptoms, low blood sugar, or self doubt. Day 3 is the beginning of some of the hardest days for most folks!
Your best bet: Realize that you are likely not experiencing a real cold or flu but the effects of detoxing from sugar. Be careful not to rush off to the doctor; just know that this reaction is common and will subside within a few days. And if you’re an active person, adding good carbs to your plate will likely squash these issues flat. Focus on the positives that are ahead— liberation from your cravings and a healthier you, inside and out.
Today's Lesson:
Do you need more good carbs than you thought?
How are you feeling today? Are you starting to get the hang of the 21DSD after those first two days? Or are you still feeling like you’re flailing a bit? Today’s lesson is to help you figure out if perhaps you need more carbs than you originally thought you did.
Are you experiencing any of the following?
- Excessive fatigue (assuming you slept well the night before)
- Extreme hunger
- A headache that won’t quit
- A feeling of general weakness or malaise when you exercise (or your legs feel like lead!)
If any of the above sounds like you, it may be time to revisit your 21DSD Plate!* I’ve often noticed that folks underestimate or undervalue how much activity they do while on the 21DSD. The more active you are, the more carbs you burn naturally in a day, so you can add them to your plate without concern that they’ll keep your body from being able to also burn fat. If you have an active job where you’re on your feet all or much of the day, if you are pregnant or nursing a little one, or if you’re active in the gym or in sports during the day and you’re feeling any of the symptoms listed above, you probably need a good-carb bump-up! This is normal and expected, and I encourage you to do it now before you get further into the program and feel these symptoms much more harshly.
The Dish from Diane:
Today is a pretty big milestone! It’s a day when a lot of folks throw in the towel, usually because they jumped in without preparing—but not you! You’ve been following along since the pre-detox week and you’ve got your eyes on the prize. Stay focused on each day as it comes, checking off your list for the day.
Today's Checklist:
- Post to social media using the hashtag #21DSD about your day 3 meals and experience. Tell us how you plan to build your plate and what healthy carbs you’re eating.
