Hey Folks! We're excited to introduce Certified 21DSD Coach Kate Garces. Kate's article is part of a series of articles contributed by our Certified 21DSD Coaches. Enjoy! – Diane and Team
If you have committed to 21 sugar-free days, that is awesome! Congrats on taking that step. We’ve got some major inspo here for you today.
Still on the fence? Read on, my friend.
Many people find that they feel so good after they complete the three weeks that they continue on with the plan; maybe not as strictly, but they do to some extent as they just love how this ‘real-foods’ lifestyle works in their life and how it makes them feel. They often find they don’t even miss the sugar!
Really!
If you are just embarking on this detox this idea might sound completely crazy to you. In fact, the idea of even attempting the 21-Day Sugar Detox may still feel a little crazy. You may be thinking, how in the world am I going to do this?
- What about that BBQ on Saturday?
- What about my kid’s birthday next week?
- What about girls’ night this weekend?
Don’t worry; you’re definitely not alone in this thinking! When we look at it this way there’s never going to be the “perfect” time to do these things. I mean really, are you ever going to have a three-week period with absolutely nothing going on in your life? Doubtful.
Plus, we would never want you to hole up in your home for 21 days and not come out till the end! Not even close. In fact that’s why we give you lots of tips and tricks on eating out, attending parties, even traveling!
You can absolutely do this and I might even venture to suggest that this is the perfect time, because somehow you landed here and you’re reading this.
Did a friend suggest the program? Did you stumble across the Facebook page or find yourself thumbing through the book at the bookstore? I don’t believe those are accidents! I believe you are here because you’re meant to be here, right now.
So actually, it’s perfect timing!
Welcome, we have been waiting for you and would love to share just a few insights that might help you embark on your detox with an inspired mindset in order to be super successful.
Because here’s the thing…
We can motivate you till we turn blue in the face, but you need to be inspired.
What is the difference?
Motivation comes from the outside; motivational quotes, before and after pics, success stories, etc. All good stuff but none of that means a thing to you and your success if it doesn’t start from within you.
What do I mean by that?
You need to determine your “WHY.” WHY are you doing this? WHY are you here?
When you get crystal clear on your “why,” your reason for embarking on these 21 days (and possibly beyond), you begin working from an internal place. And that my friends, is your inspiration.
YOU are your own inspiration, because darn it, your “why” is everything.
When you know your why, you become inspired to not only do it, but rock it!
And you absolutely will.
Everyone’s “why” is different.
For some people it may be as simple as kicking a sugar habit that’s gone a little off the rails. It could be losing a little weight, having more energy to play with their kids, perform better at work or athletically, learning how to cook and eat healthier as a whole, or even just to be able to say you did it, to see a challenge through to the end.
I invite you to spend some time working on your why. It might have deeper roots than you even think! The more meaningful and purposeful our ‘why’ is, the more inspiring it can be for us.
So dig a little deeper. When you come up with your why, ask why again!
Why is your reason important to you, what meaning does it have? Ask yourself why again and again and you’ll start coming up with some juicy stuff.
By the way, this exercise can be used to find inspiration in all areas of your life so feel free to use it everywhere! This is a great journal exercise, when you’re feeling stuck, uninspired or unmotivated.
For our purposes here at the 21-Day Sugar Detox, we want you inspired to rock it, we know you can, and we’ll be here along the way to motivate you and nudge you along.
You bring your why and your commitment to the 21 days and we’ll be here to support you and offer well-deserved virtual high fives and big hugs at the end for your kick-butt accomplishment.
And who knows what exciting stuff lies ahead for you thereafter! If you can do this, the sky’s the limit friend!
Please share your why in the comments below! We love to hear them and you never know who YOU may inspire, too!

My father had diabetes and high blood pressure. It wasn’t until after he died that I realized I’m just like him. The sugar cravings are horrible, my body aches, and sometimes I can barely move. I think about all dad went through and how he suffered and I know I’m repeating his same mistakes. Poor man didn’t know better. I know better and I wanted stop being lazy and actually “do” better. I owe it to myself don’t I?
